Jackson was 14 of 29 for 194 yards and two touchdowns, but he had completed only three passes for 26 yards the first three quarters.According to Sportradar, the 58 snaps are the most any team has gone with quarter personnel (seven defensive backs) in any game since the NFL’s Next Gen Stats came online in 2014. The previous high was 31 by Buffalo in a 2016 Week 3 game against Arizona.Los Angeles had previously used seven defensive backs on 15 or more snaps twice this season. They employed it 18 times in a Week 7 win at Cleveland and on 15 plays in the regular-season finale at Denver.“It was a matter of putting our seven best, healthy athletes out there. The coaches did a great job getting us prepared this week,” defensive end Isaac Rochell said.Lynn said he was surprised by Bradley’s idea to use it the entire game and that it led to lots of discussion with the coaching staff leading up to the game

He hasn’t played a snap of NFL football since December. You have to assume that he took a sizeable chunk of that time not really doing anything. He probably only started doing REAL training sessions after Hunter Henry got hurt. Add to that the fact that he is 38 years old and it is a pretty safe bet to assume he isn’t in “football shape.”Obviously the team doesn’t need, or want, him to be an every down player. However, he needs to be in good enough shape that they don’t have to worry about him getting an injury like a pulled hamstring which would keep him out for a few weeks. Lynn is playing it safe here, which is a good thing. He was asked yesterday if Gates would be on a snap count and his response was “definitely. I don’t even know if he’s going to play because we don’t know what kind of shape he’s in. But if he plays he’ll definitely be on a snap count.” So I wouldn’t be in a hurry to get him in your fantasy lineups just yet.
